Vietnam’s 5G construction is poised to take off

2024-08-06

Recently, the Vietnamese Ministry of Information and Communications issued a notice stating that the country has set a goal to end 3G services by September 2028, giving operators more than four years to migrate a total of 38.2 million users to 4G and 5G networks, with the aim of releasing spectrum for 4G and 5G services.

As of June this year, Vietnamese operators Viettel, Vinaphone, Mobilone, and Vietobile have 3.9 million, 15.1 million, 10 million, and 9.2 million 3G users respectively. In addition, according to the survey, the four major telecom operators in Vietnam still have about 6 million 2G users.

Vietnam’s 5G spectrum is relatively scarce and will only be allocated to a few operators in early 2024, resulting in slow progress in 5G commercialization. The release of this action goal indicates that in the coming years, it will be a period of vigorous development for Vietnam’s 4G and 5G infrastructure construction.
